Why I’m Thankful for Bay Area Fellowship

by DeeDee Sharon on November 23, 2009

Editor’s Note: The first winning blog in our Thanksgiving contest comes from DeeDee Sharon.

In October of last year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Doctors said I would need surgery, chemo, and radiation, so I knew I had a tough road ahead. I began to seek the Lord as to how I would get through this, glorifying Him all the while. I knew that it would be important to plant myself in His presence, in His Word, and in His house.

Because I serve on our worship team, I had the privilege of walking through my journey very openly before our church family. God was gracious enough to give me the strength to continue singing on the weekends, and as He led, I was able to share my testimony and give God praise. The week that I began to lose my hair from the effects of chemo, the band decided to wear hats during the upcoming weekend services so that I wouldn’t have to debut my new “do” alone. Everyone from the people on stage to those working the sound booth to the media control room staff was donning head gear. It was the most amazing sight, and a day I will never forget.

In the months to follow, I was surrounded by friends and family who were faithful to lift me up in prayer, offer encouragement, provide meals, and be a support to my family. I am now cancer-free and so grateful for my church family, Bay Area Fellowship, who beautifully portrays the Acts 2 church.

What an amazing woman and an amazing story. But We are truly the ones blessed to know and learn for Dee Dee and Her walk with the father. You could not have picked a better journal entry,

I remember the day that all of the band wore hats. I think it was when most of us realized what DeeDee had been experiencing. From that day, I have been in awe of her strength and courage. There have been times where I wondered if I was capable of getting through a particularly tough day. I nearly always remind myself of that image of DeeDee singing with a bandana on her head and think of Philippians 4:13. I am so proud and thankful to be a member of Bay Area Fellowship as well.

When we first learned of Dee Dee’s cancer diagnosis, my heart went out to her. We prayed for a complete cure. Every week as she sang with the praise team, she never lost that great smile. And I prayed every day for her as she went through the chemo and radiation. God bless you Dee Dee.
