Great. But how do I stay in it? How do I keep myself coming to the ice cream shop, that’s my problem…especially when so much is happening outside that demands my time and attention, that before long I skip on the treat until I forget what vanilla flavor tastes like.

Hungry to be hungry again.

Awesome! I agree with the quote at the end where you pointed out that God gives us that desire for His word. I believe that it is always God that brings me back. When the world has swept me off my feet and into a tail spin, God speaks to me. Not too different from Peter on the water, I only realize how far I have sunk when I get my eyes off of the storm around me. It is always God speaking to me that shakes me loose from the world’s enchanting and distracting craziness. I have the same problem as Jamie. I get into my life so much that God’s word and sometimes my prayer time comes last. I need prayer for discipline, I guess. God has been faithful though, to teach me some important lessons even when I wasn’t searching for them. Praise God for His faithfulness!!

Hey Jamie and Parke,

Great questions and insights! Of course I don’t claim to know all of the answers but I will share with you what the Scripture teaches and what’s worked for me over the next couple of weeks. But as Parke pointed out it takes discipline to stay in the Word AND desire too. We have to ask God for both! I’ll be praying for y’all!

With love in Christ,

Good devotion Regina :) I’m beginning my prayer retreat today where I get to take a whole day and just feast in God’s word. Sometimes when you’ve been so busy you don’t know where you want to start chewing/meditating. In response to Jamie, I think proverbs 27:7 makes a great statement—it’s says “When you’ve stuffed yourself, you refuse dessert; when you’re starved, you could eat a horse.” The question for me when I stop hungering for God’s word is…okay so what am I already feeding myself that has made me so full that I can hunger for the things I need to be hungering for. There may be other reasons why we are not hungering for God’s word, but that’s a great starting question. Also, I know that when I walk past a great restaurant and I start smelling the smells—it brings me in. I may not have been hungry before but when I am in it’s presence…I want some steak:) So my next question is, am I even in the presence of a place that is digging in God’s word? Am I in a community of biblestudy diggers? Just some questions that have helped me when i am in a place like Jamie. Thanks again Regina!
