Make Sure Fun is on Your Summer Schedule
It’s summer and you may be planning what’s going to happen in the young adult ministry in your church this fall and into next year. You may be totally focused on all matters of high spiritual value. Let me give you one word of advice: build in some fun.
Eliminating “Cafeteria” Christianity
I think were losing the ability to communicate our faith in Christ effectively to the lost. It’s not because we don’t have snappy, simple presentations of the gospel that you can communicate in five minutes or less. We can stack those tracts to the rafters. I believe it’s because we ARE NOT people of biblical depth, people who can answer the hard questions the world asks, beyond the five minute presentations we have memorized.
Help for the Journey
Young adults are looking for mentors, people who have experience and could share experiences that can help them live life more effectively. Is there a place in young adult ministry to bring together multiple generations to build ‘daily life’ skills, such as cooking, doing taxes, etc.?
Leadership Reimagined
I’ve always struggled with what it means to be a spiritual leader. I heard I was supposed to be a spiritual leader when I was dating my wife. Did that mean any more than I should keep my hands to myself? I think so, but beyond that I wasn’t always sure how to flesh it out. As a pastor, I’m supposed to be a spiritual leader. Does that mean that I am a professional Christian? I sure hope not. As a dad, I’m supposed to be a spiritual leader. Does that mean I pray before dinner and make my kids go to church? There has to be more to spiritual leadership than this stuff.
