Willing to Move

I’d rather attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed. —Robert H. Schuller

I’m good at doing nothing, real good in fact. That’s why I like this quote so much. It’s a constant reminder that moving forward is always the right direction. The moment you stop or become complacent with your current situation is the moment you begin to fall. And let’s be honest, who really wants to do that? David is a great example of both scenarios. At one point in his life, he stays active and moves when God tells him to. This spares his men from death and prevents the city of Keilah from being attacked. Another time in his life didn’t go so well. Remember the whole Bathsheba thing? Well, had he been with his army like an active king, he would have never been milling around the castle watching the ladies from his rooftop. He became fat and happy with how things were going and took his foot off the gas. From that one bad decision, the lowest point of his life emerged.

So when studying back through this week’s lesson, I was reminded of the necessity of good leaders being willing to move, and why they are willing to move. For one, they trust God more than they fear their circumstances. They’re also actively walking with Him. When they hear His voice, they obediently respond. This is what made David a great leader. With the exception of the Bathsheba incident, David had an active relationship with God and was willing to move even when it didn’t make sense.

In some way, you and I are both leaders. Maybe it’s just in your home, on your team, at work or at school, but I can promise you someone is following what you do. You have the ability to impact them through your actions. In this story David had around 600 men depending on his leadership. Maybe you and I don’t have that many, but to the ones that are following we’re no less important than David was. As you think through your lesson for this week and you read through 1 Samuel, allow God to speak to where you are in your life and where He wants you to move next. It may be a simple change of attitude or forgiving someone that has hurt you. It may mean finally packing up and following his call to another city. I don’t know what that means for you, but I am challenging you to be ready to move. Trust God with the outcome but display good leadership and move. Move closer to Christ and closer to His will for your life and I promise it won’t be a wrong move.

As a leader, I agree with your blog and I’m one who feels the same way, let’s get moving! Do we really know what’s at stake? If we believed in His coming, we’d truly be going; that is about His work. No time to waste! Go deeper in Christ.
