Why was all of history waiting on the birth of one child?

When you think of Jesus as Savior, what has he saved you from? The most likely answer would be “hell.” But honestly, if you’re still alive, and if you’re reading this you are, then you haven’t been saved from hell yet. That time will come, but if you’re living your life with just that, you’re missing out on so much. Sometimes I read the Psalms and feel overwhelmed by the love David had for God. But there were many moments in David’s life where he was literally saved by God. His knowledge of God as Savior was literal and had been experienced many times. There was little doubt that God would rescue him in death because He had already saved him multiple times in life. I think this is something we miss out on in our comfortable lives.

I mean honestly, when your life is comfortable and things are going great, what do you really need God for. The right answer is you always need God, but we often don’t live like that. If you’ve never been sick do you know what it’s like to be healed? If you’ve never been weak do you know what it’s like for Him to be your strength? If you’ve never turned from your selfishness and sin, do you know what it’s like for Him to be your redemption? If you’ve never been lost, do you know what it’s like for Him to be your Shepherd?

I ask all of this because this week we see God show up in physical ways and help His people. We’re also focusing on the song, “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” and seeing how He really showed up on our behalf and continues to walk with us today. The relationship we’re called to have with Him is more than simply hoping he rescues us from hell, it’s supposed to impact each and every day of our life. It gives us purpose and meaning. Is your walk with Him doing that this week? Do you look at people and life differently because of Jesus? Many people will be celebrating Christmas this year, but what are they celebrating? Most will simply be enjoying another holiday like Valentine’s or Thanksgiving. But for those of us that follow Christ, this season is about so much more. It’s about celebrating the moment Jesus entered our story and if we’ll allow Him it’s about celebrating the way He’s still writing our story. Don’t get too caught up in the festivities and miss out on the fellowship and relationship this season represents.

Praise and glory be to GOD for his love and desiere to bring us closer to Him inspite of our selves.
