Value Size My Ride

by Heather Manning on May 16, 2007

I had the recent privilege of borrowing a mini van from the LifeWay fleet to transport some large backdrops for a photo shoot. The most entertaining portion of this drive was sitting so close to the dashboard that I was beginning to morph into a part of the vehicle. There was the speedometer, the cassette deck, the Johnny Cash bobble head, and Heather, the now permanent driver. I elected to drive that close to avoid duct taping the cargo door closed. It was good times. I personally found the semi-mundane adventure so interesting because this particular vehicle is the antithesis of my life. I have no children to cart about, I rarely carry large objects to and from places, and since I am being really honest, I don’t think there are more than four people willing to risk their life by riding with me. So I found myself having a steady conversation with everyone on the road whilst driving this monster. It went something like this… “People—you really want to get out of my way—I have no idea how long it will take me to stop this bus.” And that is when it hit me….my friend Allison was REALLY wrong when she recently told me that I should be a school bus driver. It was a well meaning suggestion of how I could be more involved in the lives of children, but I don’t think their parents would be wise to let them board my death bus. Now is there a point to this….no, not really. I just want to relay the mis-adventure of one girl who should never be allowed to drive a mini van again.
