The Winner Is…
The winner of the first LifeMatters contest is “They call me co”. His entry was received and no one was able to knock him off the top rung. For those of you who don’t know or remember the contest I am speaking of, I asked a simple question. “When could using your Bible be a bad thing?” His answer was this: You’re right! A person being forced to use a Bible is never a negative thing, unless…As you are leaving church, you and a friend are dive-bombed by a lone, kamikaze African Honey Bee. Knowing that your friend is allergic, you are heroically forced to swat the bee out of the air with your NIV. Well, unbeknownst to you, bees release a scent when in danger to attract other bees. And before your friend has time to sigh a “thanks buddy,” the reinforcements arrive attacking with the fury of a thousand suns. That could be one way that the phrase “I had to use my Bible” would be negative. [The story is fictional. No African Honey Bees nor any friends were actually injured in such an event.]
Although the Ferris Bueller references pulled the second place winner close, the “fury of a thousand suns” and the disclaimer at the end did it. Funny story! All you need to do now to claim you incredible t-shirt is email me with your real name and mailing address. I hope you check this site more than once a month.
And now onto the second contest. This time we have the graphics for our newest t-shirt. Your job is to come up with something funny, serious, spiritual, or even ridiculous, whatever, that could be used to describe this shirt. I will give you the background briefly and turn you loose. This shirt was created as part of a joint project we are doing with a ministry called Mocha Club. This is the shirt you will receive if you join the Threads Mocha Club. You can click here for more info. The desire is for us to give up one trip to Starbucks each month and join a group of us help the Sudan region. This is a fantastic project and a worthwhile use of a few dollars a month. Here is the shirt and here is the official meaning, kind of. We wanted to use two of our Threads markers as part of why we are involved with Mocha Club. The two markers here are responsibility (the water bottle) and depth (the tree). The equations is to show that those two things together lead to hope. Now your job is to either make it funny or serious but make it your own. Winner will get on of these shirts hot off the press.

This basically means that if you were to throw a water bottle at a tree you should hope that it wouldn’t bounce back and knock you out. now this shirt does not necessarily mean bad thing such as that. Maybe, if you threw the bottle, being glass this time, at the tree and it broke, water would spread over the tree and there would be hojpe for the tree’s survival. What a CRAZY person might say to this is if you see a tree giving birth to a water bottle, or vice versa, you’d have hope of being rich for discovering such a marvelous event. But that’s just wierd. (wink wink)

Now, while money may not grow on trees, apparently the combination of a Nalgene bottle and a young oak will bring forth a new form of life…the Kevlar Dove (Nalgenicus Aviairius). Impervious to shot fired by hunters, too hard for any predator to chew on, and able to go weeks without needing a drink, the Kevlar Dove is the symbol of hope to all other birds in their attempt to convince the world that they are neither tasty nor fun to hunt.
Rumor has it that chickens are attempting this genetic blend to avoid the wrath of Col. Sanders and Truett Cathy, but to no avail…

Here is the way I see it. If we will be responsible and use the resources we have (the water) to invest (go deep) where people live (the tree), then there is hope for those we are providing depth for (the bird…or those in Sudan).
By the way, it was great to meet you at the conference Chad.

Excellent thoughts guys! I love it when my in box lets me know someone has left a comment. I drop everything I am doing and quickly head for the blog to see what was said. Generally this means I quit checking Sports Illustrated and I check our Threads site instead. I am always surprised to see what you guys write and as always, you don’t disappoint. Anytime you can throw in a Chic Fil A reference you will score major points! I hate fast food, but I love to Eat More Chicken.
Rod- It was great getting to meet you earlier this week also. Keep in touch. Now that you know about the blog, I am expecting regular contributions from you!
For those of you wanting to learn more about Young Adult ministry, check out our Connect Conferences. I know I enjoyed getting a chance to meet the guys in the trenches from around the country and Germany. There is a good chance there is one coming to an area near you very soon.

Not sure if the t-shirt graphic contest is over or not. Here’s my entry for what it is worth:
Sometimes God lets us carry the water… Matthew 25:37
We have a responsibility to carry the water to where it is needed. Sometimes God allows rain to fall exactly where it is needed. At other times He entrusts the water to us. This is both a privilege and a responsibility. As we mature (grow deeper) we realize this more and more.
By the way, I am new to Threads. We use the curriculum in Sunday School and I’m just discovering how to use it, this site, and threads “philosophy” better. Thanks.
