It’s About Time

by Chad Jordan on January 07, 2010 to the LifeMatters blog

Well, 2010 is officially here. Before we talk about this week’s lesson, I just wanted to highlight a few things that came up over the Christmas break. One is that many people are having trouble finding our iMix. I apologize for the inconvenience some of you’ve had, and we now have a link on our LifeMatters page.

We’ve also created a new section for Leaders where we’ll post items from time to time. Currently on that page is a link to our iMix, as well as a downloadable version of our Leader Guide. We had to post that because we ran out of Leader Guides. Which brings me to my next highlight. I want to thank everyone that is using LifeMatters. What started out as an experiment, a brand new Bible study for young adults by young adults, and it’s really beginning to work in classes all around the country. The fact that we had backorders was a first for our team and I just wanted to thank all of you that have helped us along the past two years. We’ve received so many encouraging letters as well as helpful tips and suggestions, so our team says thanks. As has been the case from the beginning, if you have ideas on how to make your study experience better, let me know. We have some constraints, but we’re always looking to make the study better.

Now onto our discussion about time.

This week in my small group, we discussed things we wished we could control better, and time came up in our discussion several times. We never seem to have enough of it, when we’re having fun it flies by but when we’re bored it seems to crawl. Wouldn’t it be better if it were the other way around? After much discussion, we landed on the idea that only a surrendered life can take full advantage of the time we’ve been given. If we’re not daily surrendered to God and His plans, then we spend our time focused on ourselves. Think about how you decide what you allow to take up time in your life. How could God use your time differently than you’re using it right now? Knowing that life is but a vapor, why not use it the best way we can and start moving where He leads?

What are your thoughts on time? Do you manage it well? As verse 12 of Chapter 3 says, are you living the good life? Do you enjoy your time or does it simply pass by? These are all questions that came to mind during this study and I think they’ll be good for us all to spend some time this week thinking through them.

Tracy, it should work properly now. Give it another try.

Here is the link to the pdf so you don’t have to go looking again.

Wow! What a great “problem” to have! btw, after doing a quick peek around the internet, it appears that several churches are using LifeMatters for classes whose members are way beyond the original target “life stage” :-) Interesting to find that we weren’t the only ones! Keep up the great work!

I think we all struggle with using our time wisely and we all too often think there is not enough time to do the things “we” want to do. One thing I stressed to our class was that we are on God’s time and we need to look to him for guidance, knowledge, and just an overall plan that He has for us. I don’t manage my time real well, but I try to allow God to work in my life to show others how He has changed my life.
