I need an intervention—please don’t call A&E or any other reality TV show.

Six months ago my dad died after a fast and furious whipping from cancer. Today a friend lost his job. Tomorrow another of my friends will attend a daily AA meeting where she will admit that she has no power over alcoholism. Another friend will measure her food and count almonds to be certain that she keeps an eating disorder at bay. Every single one of us walks with God, it’s just that the path is trickier than we expected—there have been some pretty dark days.

This sort of trouble begs questions: How do you sit with someone who’s grieving? How do you minister to a lovely young woman who wages war on her demons every day? How do you walk alongside hurting people who come to the end of their ropes? Some days we’re all limping at best and those are the days when, more than anything, we need someone to step into our situation—to Intervene.

There’s a new event from Threads that I’m glad to see come along—and it’s not just because I work with Threads. Our leaders saw a need and our event team saw an opportunity to help. As one who has needed my fair share of help, I’m glad to watch as Intervene comes together detail by detail.

Intervene is a new event designed to equip and encourage church leaders on how to better understand and engage the life struggles of young adults. Leaders will learn more about some of the difficult issues young adults face such as abuse, addiction, disorders, depression, etc. They’ll gain practical training and insight for ministering to young adults experiencing crisis. Most importantly they’ll find encouragement and hope in the challenges of ministering to this generation.

People are messy—I know I am. Problems are real. Intervene. Enter In.

This is a very cool idea for a conference. I think the content will be much more applicable than all those conferences that bring in big name pastors and Christian bands and aim to get all the attendees on some sort of spiritual high.
