Hello, my name is Chris and I’m an iPhone Addict.
Now, mind you, I don’t have some kind of in-road with the big man himself (Steve Jobs, that is) - my fascination is merely a hypothetical one, one that may or may not become reality next month with the launch of the much-anticipated “Phone 2.0.” What’s wrong with my current Treo 650? Nothing. It’s just not an iPhone. Go ahead & say it: I’m pathetic (I know).
I think it’s just a guy thing. Our compartmentalized view of life affords us the ability to take things we don’t want to give attention to & file them away in some dark recess of our minds - only to be brought back into the daylight when someone (usually a female in our lives) brings it up. I’m not being sexist - I have just lived with a female long enough (my beautiful wife of 12 years) to know that women don’t have this wonderful ability. When they think about something they think about something - no escaping it. Even when they manage to get their minds off of it for a short period of time, something invariably will happen that will pull that ‘thing’ (whatever it is) right back into the forefront of their minds. It can’t be moved aside to be dealt with at a later time. There is no separation - it all flows together & affects every part of their life.
I’m happy with my boxed approach to life - even though I know that the time will come when I have no choice but to face ‘it’ and all hell will likely break loose at that point and time (because I’ve shoved it off to the side for so long).
Maybe that’s why obsession for a guy is such an unlikely and dangerous thing to experience. We want that iPhone, car, boat, laptop, PS3, _____________ - and we’re so consumed with acquiring (yep, major guy thing) & conquering it that we’re going to have it - even if we have to sell our first born to get it (okay, maybe we’re not that obsessed… maybe…).
So, I’ll sit here and dream, and wait, and Digg countless Apple/iPhone rumors, waiting for the day when fate will arrive and it will finally be mine. Of course I still have to come up with the $599 to throw at it - a minor detail when you’re looking to conquer!
No spiritual point (unless you can draw one) - just wanted to draw you all in on the madness that is mine.
