Going to the SBC Annual Meeting
So next week is the actual Southern Baptist Convention, and I’m going.
Myself and one of my co-workers are heading out to San Antonio to answer questions about LifeWayLink, LifeWay’s website building application. This is actually the third time I’ll have gone to the Convention… but it’s always been in relation to work. What’s strange to me is that here is this denomination, this group of people who I am a part of and is so very important to me… but I’m very ignorant of the politics and issues and people that will happen this weekend.
I might be able to get some time off the hall floor and visit a few of the actual meetings… I’m trying to figure out what I should hit up and what issues I just need to stay clear of. The actual schedule is here.
So I know where to look for gadget news, comic books and research on future trends… but finding out where the pertinent SBC information is was a bit harder. I’d like to have some kind of preparation to know what the hot issues are going in are. Here’s some quick finds that I’ll be watching to try to get a better grasp of what all’s going on:
SBC Outpost This conglomerate of bloggers are pushing out articles in the way most familiar to me (as… blogs). They seem to cover a lot of ground and they’ve even linked to my personal site in the past when we were both covering the Q Conference.
BP News The official new source from Baptist Press. I expect this site to have the most fully researched and accurate information.
Albert Mohler Color me suprised when I found this very engaging blog from Dr. Mohler. I have very little knowledge or opinions about him (like I said… I’m rather clueless as to some of the personalities and politics of the SBC), but I’ve found his blog to be very open and honest; he doesn’t seem to hold back on controversial topics or things he is passionate about. The fact that he’s covering things like the limits of humanity in light of scientific studies, something I want to research myself once I start my masters in future studies to sexual identity in the pulpit has made his blog a must read.
SBC Life Another official news site of the SBC.
Perhaps the most important site once I get back to the hotel room/back to Nashville will be this one:
SBC Annual Meeting It appears that we’re going to be posting clips from the actual conference here after they happen.
So - does anyone out there have any suggestions for other SBC-oriented sites I should be adding to my RSS reader?
