From This Moment On

by Chad Jordan on May 29, 2010 to the LifeMatters blog

If you’ve ever attended a wedding after 1997, you’ve probably heard the over-used anthem, “From This Moment On,” made popular by Shania Twain and Bryan White. As cheesy as we may consider the song today, the lyrics really teach a valuable lesson when it comes to building a strong marriage for tomorrow. Often, we’re paralyzed by the past, but we must keep looking forward because that’s what drives innovation, growth, and faithfulness.

This week’s LifeMatters lesson helps us take a look at what we can do now to build a strong marriage for tomorrow. Three things are important for this process: (1) confession and repentance, (2) catching the little foxes, and (3) connecting spiritually. When it comes to marriage, one of our biggest mistakes is that we often look at the world’s standards instead of Christ’s. A Christ-centered marriage is one that will be almost impossible to tear apart. We can make such a choice “from this moment on.”

As we wrap the May study, “I (Still) Do,” we’ve been taking a look at the biblical view of marriage and how it affects individuals, the church, and society. Married or single, hopefully you’ve been able to grasp onto God’s Word these past few weeks, absorbing the specific things God wants you to know and understand about His standards for the sacred institution we call marriage.

What are the most valuable lessons you’ve learned this month regarding marriage? As a result of learning about the biblical view of marriage, has anything changed in your relationships? We would love to hear your comments!

A couple things have been reminded to me through this month’s study. Men need to be the godly husbands they are called to be by God. This will cause the women to want to be submissive as called to by God. Also, each person in a marital relationship has to be right with God individually for the marriage to be Godly. I hope everyone who has taken part in the study will be drawn closer to God and his or her spouse.

Marriage isn’t about me. It’s about God and my wife and what I can do to have a right relationship with them.
