Do You Feel Trapped on Tempation Island?
Remember the Fox reality show Temptation Island? The show’s premise was to place several couples and a group of singles (all disgustingly attractive) on an island in tropical paradise, in order to test the strength of their relationships. Sounds “realistic,” right?
While we might consider the concept of such a show completely ridiculous (and it is), we often live our lives trapped in a similar situation as these people. Our sin separates us from the presence of the Lord, often holding us captive on what seems like a remote island without an escape route.
Adam and Eve lived in complete paradise. They were beautifully made by their Creator and had all they could ever want or need. Enters temptation and his friend, sin. Adam and Eve then had to ask themselves, “What am I going to do with my sin?” In response, they tried to hide themselves. They even played the blame game. But ultimately, they learned that sin separated them from God (and in a way, they were “voted out” of paradise).
This week, we look at the life of David and ask ourselves the same question: What am I going to do with my sin? Sure, we’re going to be tempted. And as the human beings we are, we will sin. However, we must learn how to effectively handle sin as we walk with God. Though nothing we do is hidden from Him, we also must not live in the guilt of our actions.
Enters Jesus. Christ already paid the payment for our past, present, and future sins. The cross of Christ now bridges that gap of separation between sinful man and Holy God. It’s here where we find encouragement and hope for when we miss the mark.
As you gather and study together this week, we want to hear what you think about sin, temptation, and how to handle it. How are you dealing with sin in your life? In what ways do we need to respond differently to sin?
