Ahhh! Old Friends!
There is nothing I love more than old friends. These are the friends that love and accept you with all your imperfections. They don’t think your crazy ability to quote the television show “Friends” is wierd because they do it too. But more than anything there is just something so comfortable about a friendship that falls right back into step even when you’ve been apart for years.
This last week of my life was not the “funnest,” shall we say, but I was blessed with a random plane ticket last weekend to Austin, TX. I was able to spend 40 beautiful hours with one of my best friends, Jen. And although the threat of that ice storm kept us on our toes, we had a great time just catching up and driving around the city where we met. Really the most disappointing time of the whole weekend was discovering that my old apartment building had been repainted. I know you are thinking that is random, but we had a ritual of checking on a secret time capsule we left on the wall of my apartment building when I moved out. We were testing the theory that a gummy bear if licked and stuck on a wall would stay there indefinitely (it was last checked on about 4 months ago and it was holding steady at 4 years - think about that next time you pop one in your mouth). I digress.
I am just so thankful that God gives us earthly relationships that reflect His love for us. There is nothing that I do that makes Jen love me. For goodness sakes I forgot to call her on her birthday this last year! She knows me almost as well as my husband does, and as much as I hate to admit it - I’m not all great! Regardless, I know any time I need her she will be there for me like there was no seperation of time. During a week in my life when I felt my actions directly impacting other people’s opinion of my worth, He gave me a great example of His steadfast love.

Nothin wrong with quotin’ some “Friends”.
“Uh, huh. Yeah, right after I thank everyone for giving money to the museum, I sing a song about the wonder that is Joey.”
