A Lifestyle of Meditation

by Katie Krebs on January 28, 2011 to the LifeMatters blog

The topic for this Sunday is meditation. When life is busy and full of distractions, it can seem impossible to find even a few spare minutes of peace and quiet for contemplation and prayer. My father-in-law tells the story of a family member who would throw her apron over her head before she prayed. Anytime she did so, her children knew to leave her in peace. Do you have a quiet place where you can escape to meditate on God’s word? What steps do you take to eliminate distractions—if only for a minute or two?

Fortunately I have a home with a room where I can say to my wife each morning (if she’s awake), that “I’m going up”. I have a daily personal Bible study and I journal about what I read. This starts my day off in a Greatly motivated way. It doesn’t always remain that way, but I take God to go. A conscious contact with the Spirit is a driving force toward discipleship.

I know that there are a lot of I, me, and mines in there but the Lord is “my” Motivator.

Taking time everyday to mediate on God’s word is so important to our spiritual growth. Picking a quiet chair or our bed every morning to spend time in prayer is crucial. Finding time everyday to spend with God can be challenging in our busy day but during the time we spend with Him we are able to be filled with his greatness and wisdom.
