A/C is a beautiful thing

What has your life looked like lately? Would you describe your daily life as an adventure of more of a drudge through the desert. Honestly, mine life has been a little ridiculous lately. In the past week my wife’s grandfather passed away and she, along with our almost 3 year old daughter, flew to Virginia to be with family. Their trip was insane, in much the same way going on any long trip with a two year old would be. Right before they left our air conditioner went out. They were gone for the majority of it, but I was left to literally melt away. Then the A/C guy fixed what was wrong after 6 days of the house being about 90 degrees, and after one hour of running it on Tuesday night, it broke again. Different part same result…hot. So I spent Wednesday afternoon at home watching the thermostat rise while they labored on the machine. Finally, after 8 days and $600, our A/C works again. Oh, did I mention my wife is pregnant, and she is suffering from some demonic form of sinus/allergies/head cold that is totally messing her up? Sound like fun…no. Sound like adventure…only if you consider adventure a form of torture.

But in the midst of all this “fun” I am reminded through the verses found in Hebrews 10, that I can have confidence in at least one thing, Christ. Christ has made the impossible, fellowship with God, possible. He is constantly teaching and drawing me into a closer relationship with Him. Even when daily circumstances say otherwise, He is in control. We are invited to join His story and other believers around us are invited into that story as well. We are at our best when we are connected together and doing life with each other. Immediately when my A/C went out, I had three offers from people to come stay in their house. I, reluctantly, did not take them up on that offer so I can’t really get any sympathy for living in hot conditions, but they were there. On Tuesday after I picked up my world traveling girls from the airport, and stopped at the pharmacy for my not-able-to-breath-through-my-nose wife, my good friend Erik called and offered to bring us dinner. Just the thought meant the world to me. We had already begun tomato soup and grilled cheese, but again it was an opportunity for a brother to help and he made the offer. The difficult things going on in my life opened doors for other people to get involved. I love living in fellowship with a loving God and a group of believers linking arms and following in obedience together. As I sat in my “cooling down” house last night after giving my daughter a bath, I took a few minutes to thank God for A/C, wonderful traveling companions to live this life with, and a confidence that only comes from knowing Him. This journey at times can be crazy, but what adventure without some craziness is worth living?

Perspective is everything. Thanks for the insights you share this week,. They remind of us of the confidence we have in Christ, and how that confidence lets us keep life in an eternal perspective.

Romans 8:12- I wish I could say I have kept things in an eternal perspective the whole time. Far too often I only see the storm in front of me without taking a step back to see the clearing that will be coming soon. When its all said and done and I get a chance to look back on a situation or a really difficult week, only then do I take the time to see His hand working and providing. I am hoping next time I can keep things in perspective while they are happening and show that I trust Him to handle things. My confidence in Christ should show up in the middle of the storm in the form of a calming trust. There is always something to work on!
