7 Things I Should Have Done On July 7, 2007
Somehow I missed the whole “July 7, 2007 is a lucky day” phenomenon. I didn’t realize that 07-07-07 had become such a big deal around the world. Actually, I didn’t hear anything about it until after it was over. I hadn’t even thought about the numerology of that particular day. For that matter, this isn’t something I really evaluate on other days, either. However, after reading numerous articles and seeing several news broadcasts discussing the day, it appears that I really missed out on something.
This is all, of course, based on the notion that the number, ‘7’ is lucky. Thus, a date with all sevens would bring a certain added portion of luck and good favor to those people and things involved with it. As matter of fact, Time Magazine reports that it may well have been the most popular wedding day in history. Yes, superstitious couples (including one French-born point guard and a desperate housewife) have gone to great lengths to secure the triple sevens as their wedding date. Evidently, they are “hoping the lucky numbers will make them lucky in love.”
I certainly don’t hold to the notion that July 7, 2007 is extra lucky. However, I did think it might be fun to consider what I would have done differently had I thought so. See below. Let me know if I missed any.
Get My Vehicle Registration Renewed
Despite the fact that my tags are not up for renewal yet, this just seems like a great idea. I’m not really one to get frequent speeding or parking tickets, but this seems like it would ward off the police for sure.
Enter Every Sweepstakes/Contest Possible
This one is a no-brainer. I would head off to the mall or a local shopping center and search the stores for as many “sign up for a chance to win” slips that I could get my hands on. No need for me to fill out more than one each though, today is my lucky day. Just think how many free meals, gym memberships, and shopping sprees I could rack up in a single day. (Disclaimer: not applicable to gambling or the lottery)
Purchase A New Computer
Spam, viruses, and junk mail could never harm a computer purchased on this day, right?
Post On Blogs
I really missed it here. I looked back at my post history and didn’t post on either site (jasonhayesonline and threadsmedia) on this day. Can you imagine the thousands of “random” hits and readers that would have visited these blogs if I would have only posted on that day? Rats… another blown opportunity.
Play All The Games That I Know Are Completely Based On Luck With The People That Insist They Are Based On Skill
There is very little more frustrating than when people talk smack about winning games that are completely luck-based. This happens all too often. Because I’d definitely win on this lucky day, I would have played with my eyes closed while selecting cards or tossing dice at random without any strategy or skill. Phase 10, anyone?
Listen To The Radio
With the exception of some talk shows, I listen to most music from my iPod or iTunes. I just prefer to listen to music that I want to hear all the time as opposed to an occasional good song mixed in with 5 bad ones. However, it is hard for me to fathom how good of a music mix I could have had on July 7, 2007. Goodbye Kelly Picker, hello U2.
Wash My Car
We all know that it inevitably rains immediately after you wash your car. Not this time around.
What about you? What would you have done differently if 07-07-07 really was lucky and you could do all over again? Or maybe you were able to celebrate the phenomenon - if so, share your experiences!
