When Jesus fed the 5,000-plus, He did more than feed their stomachs. He fed their souls with the promise of redemption and eternal life with Him. The loaves and fish were merely the instrument He used to teach the good news.

Sometimes when we read stories of Jesus casting out demons we treat them as if they don’t apply to us. Dark forces? Supernatural beings? Sounds like something out of a movie, right? We can forget that there is a very real battle going on between good and evil.

Do you find yourself wondering whether Jesus is big enough, His arm long enough, His voice strong enough to transform your desperation into hope? Well He is, and He will.

This story reminds us of our own desperate need for Jesus’ forgiveness. How has His forgiveness and love changed you?

Is “evangelism” a scary word to you? It doesn’t have to be. This week we’ll look at a story about John the Baptist and Jesus’ first disciples, from John 1, and we’ll see that evangelism can be as simple as sharing what you know with the people you know.

This week we’re looking at the “serve” aspect of our spiritual growth, which examines the various roles and attitudes toward serving the church. We all have gifts we can (and are expected to) bring to the church body, but how do we learn what those gifts are? And how do we make sure we’re serving with the right motives? These are the questions we’ll examine together this week, with Paul’s words in Romans 12 as our guide.

Sanctification is a lifelong process, and it can be overwhelming. Thankfully, we’re not left to our own devices: The Bible equips us with everything we need to grow in wisdom and good works.
